The work
What we clean
- Cabin interiors, berths and headliners
- Upholstery, vinyl and canvas
- Galleys, heads and lockers
- Non-skid decks and cockpit soles
- Engine bays and bilges
- Fenders, covers and biminis
- Aircraft interiors: seats, carpets, galley and lavatory
Sail or power, at a mooring, on a hard standing or in a yard, across St Francis Bay and the Kouga. We do interiors wherever she's lying. The hull depends on access and what the yard allows.
Salt and damp
Rinsing moves the salt. Heat gets it out of the seams.
Salt doesn't sit on a surface. It soaks in, draws moisture from the air and keeps working after rinsing. A cabin washed in March smells unwashed by June.
Rinsing only adds water. Dry steam is mostly vapour: it releases what's bound into the surface so it can be wiped away.
Aircraft interiors clean the same way: leather, carpet, headliners and galleys are usable again quickly.
Can you get mildew smell out of a cabin?
Usually a great deal of it. Steam cleans the surfaces the smell comes from rather than covering it with a fragrance. A cabin that's been damp for a season can need a second visit.
Run-off
No detergent goes in the water, because none goes on the boat.
On a mooring or a hard standing, whatever comes off the boat ends up in the water, and that's what yard rules are about.
Check this method against your own yard rules before you book anybody, including us.
Limits
What we check first, and what we leave alone
We clean. We don't maintain, inspect or certify anything. On an aircraft, anything inside a certified maintenance schedule belongs to an approved maintenance organisation, not a cleaning contractor.
We stay out of avionics bays, instrument panels, electrical enclosures and anything behind a panel. Steam and electronics don't mix.
We check teak, brightwork and older varnish before we start. Heat used carelessly raises the grain and lifts the finish.
We're not a substitute for antifouling, osmosis treatment or paintwork. We'll tell you if that's what you need.
Tell us what you are up against.
One photo of the cabin or deck, and where she's lying. We'll tell you what the job involves and roughly what it costs.
